“Narrow Complementarian” CBMW Director Votes Against the Abolition of Human Abortion

Just yesterday I wrote about the SBC’s spiral into leftism was a predictable outcome of the Southern Baptist embrace of that Christian form of feminism, I.E. complementarianism. There are other reasons why this has happened, but the point is that this 21st convention of the SBC is revealing just how deep the cancer had spread.

Thanks to men like William (Bill) Ascol, we know that the problem was even worse than we thought. He proposed a resolution that would call for Southern Baptists everywhere in every capacity to abolish human abortion in every form, no exceptions, no if’s, and’s, or but’s (You can find the full-text for this resolution in this bulletin on page 10). He garnered enough support at #SBC21 that the resolution had to be voted on, which tells you there is a decent number of Godly Christian church leaders who wanted this resolution passed. Unfortunately, it was not passed, and guess who voted against it?

This guy:

Denny Burk, a Southern Baptist and director of the Council of Biblical Manhood & Womanhood, voted against this resolution. He even announced that he would do so.

This man voted against a resolution that would exhort all Southern Baptists everywhere to do whatever they could to abolish abortion, and to not allow exceptions to this rule to prevent them from doing so. Enough Southern Baptists recognize this is a dead-end approach to abolishing abortion and want their brothers and sisters to forsake it in favor of complete, no-holds-barred abolition. Denny Burk fought against this resolution for that exact reason. There must, absolutely MUST be allowances made for abortion in exceptional cases.

This is where the so-called biblical manhood part is utterly absent in the CBMW’s director. Denny should have the manly courage and bravery to call for Southern Baptists to fight with all their might to end abortion. No rational reason can be given to keep abortion legal purely because a few women with ectopic pregnancies may die if they can’t have one. As far as saving lives goes, that’s a pretty darn good trade compared to the approximately 1 million+ abortions that occur every year. A few adult women dying for lack of exceptions in our nation’s laws shouldn’t concern us if it means saving over a million other lives. A real man of God should be mentally prepared to dismiss such feminist-pandering concerns without a second-thought.

Here we see one of the most glaring examples proving that complementarianism is Christian-feminism. Denny Burk is the director of the organization that coined the very term, and what do you know? He voted against abolishing abortion. He also joined the feminist feeding frenzy on Paige Patterson back in 2018. His own organization created the Statement On Abuse that makes it impossible for any Christian man to do or say anything negative towards his wife.

We believe abuse can be defined as any act or failure to act resulting in imminent risk, serious injury, death, physical or emotional or sexual harm, or exploitation of another person.

We condemn all forms of physical, sexual and/or verbal abuse.

You might wonder, “How many ways can a complementarian act like a feminist before we can formally classify him as a Christian feminist?” That’s a good question. Maybe it’s time Christians everywhere just call complementarianism what it is- Christian feminism. Just don’t try to pass a resolution stating as much at #SBC22, since you can be sure that the director of the CBMW himself will be ready and waiting to vote against it.

You’re missing the real argument. There is no reason ever to kill a baby. The mission of the doctor should be to save both baby and mother, to not let either die. Sometimes God makes a choice and one or both does, but the mother and doctor can choose to fight to save both knowing the results are in God’s hands. We don’t accept the death of the mother or the baby, we fight for both.

I didn’t want to go down that trail in my post. I just granted for the sake of the argument that women would die if Christians didn’t allow for any exceptions for abortions. That’s the point Denny Burk made, and it’s silly and untrue. However, I demonstrated that even if it were true, that would never dissuade a Godly man from accepting that trade-off if it meant saving a huge number of other lives.

Right. It just proves how disingenuous so-called pro-lifers can be. I’m sure Denny Burk is fully aware of this, but that won’t stop him from using it to pander for white-knight points.

And it’s also an issue of the exception proving the rule.

What happened at the SBC is they let a woman on stage to oppose the resolution, and she went on about forgiving these women. A courtesy never extended to male offenders. You see, every bad decision a woman
Makes is 1- minor and 2- the fault of a man.

the SBC passed a resolution so certain offenders could never be forgiven in the eyes of the church (to become leaders). They are entirely hypocritical

As I have said before, the entire pro life movement is a larp. What it actually is is a massive scam to relieve women of guilt and shame for committing the most depraved act a human being can perform.

I wasn’t aware of this. If you had a link to the video of this, feel free to post it. I’m already contemplating writing an article related to women speaking/teaching in those settings.

Thanks. This is tough to watch. So many phony, left-leaning people calling themselves Christians but utilizing the same deceptive tactics of the God-hating rulers of the U.S. Southern Baptists need to pray God gives their denomination some great-awakening-level of repentance to their leaders.

We are in an age of falling away. I welcome this as it’s a massive red pill for those still in the denominational churches. Will they wake up and question those they have been following? Will they actually read their Bible? Or will they stop lying about their beliefs and admit they aren’t Christians

I like your take Prince, and wouldn’t have thought of the trade off angle.
Denny Burk gave a guest sermon, and weekend workshop at my church 3 years ago.
Really good sermon, but my pastor was also just the head of the TGC, so the CBMW is familiar to me. We use them in the marriage week of the 10-week membership class.
Orange Man Bad and being vexed at my church’s complacency is a far bigger trigger for them than sin. At least 50% biden, and will never use a sermon to hold women accountable for sin. Always presented as sinless paragons of virtue and the boss in the home.

I’m sure he does preach some good sermons. Most wolves do. It’s all part of the sheep costume.

BTW, your pastor was just the head of the TGC? So was he Jeff Atherston? He looks like the current president.

Individuals. Also, it seems folks know better than the elders, many young marriages with stay-at-home moms and home schoolers.
Small group of about 15 guys, out of average Sunday attendance of 600 who are solid.
The counseling, preaching are blue pill, but the superficial pleas for unity are inadvertently breaking the church up anyhow. The “reasonable men” will continue on leading the church into a dull,
upper-middle class complacency , but there will be a split.
The libs are starting to freak and feel judged because of the red pillers, so even though they out number us, they are crying up a storm. It can’t last, either the pastor will have to develop balls, or 30 families will leave, like me. I am pretty sure they’d outwardly say to stay, but actually be glad to see us go. They only get mad at folks from the right.
